![]() ![]() ![]() It will take you longer to get to your destination in an RV than it does in a car. An RV GPS app can help you find alternative routes. It can be stressful driving, so many RVers prefer to find routes that avoid steep road grades. You’ll be going much slower up the grades than in a car and coming down can be difficult when you’re towing extra weight. Steep grades can also cause trouble for RVs. Remember to write down those measurements and keep them handy in your rig, so you can reference them at a moment’s notice-many RVers use a sticky note on the dash. When determining your height clearance, make sure to include your A/C unit, solar panels, WiFi antennas, and any other objects on your RV roof. You can avoid these by measuring your RV and using an RV-specific GPS app that allows you to enter your rig’s measurements to find a safe route. Even gas stations have overhangs that you might not clear when fueling up. Similarly, roads with switchbacks and sharp turns may not be able to accommodate long rigs, so keep an eye out for posted length restrictions. Things like low bridges, narrow tunnels, and low hanging power lines can all spell disaster for tall RVs. Pay attention to height and length restrictions on roads, especially when you’re driving through towns and cities. Wondering if you can safely fit under overpasses on a scenic byway? Navigating a safe RV route is a bit more involved than a typical car road trip, but there are plenty of apps to help you along the way. ![]() ![]() That brings us to… Creating a Dependent Dropdown in ExcelĬreating a dependent dropdown in Excel is great from both an efficiency and user experience perspective. However, by using functions in our data validation source, we can make this dropdown list dependent on the value selected in the country dropdown. This is not efficient and is definitely not great for user experience (something you should always keep in mind when building templates). To separate the lists by state, we’d have to select three dropdowns in this fashion. This is the primary issue with simply selecting a range of data. However, this dropdown is very long and contains all states from the three countries in our first dropdown. This saved a significant amount of time over typing in the list of states separated by a comma. If you’re more comfortable typing in the range reference, you can do that as well.Īs you can see, we’ve created a dropdown in Excel by referencing the ranges in which the data is stored. To do that, click the underlined-up arrow (highlighted in screen grab below) in the data validation window, and then select your range. For instance, if we want the user to be able to select a state, we could create a separate sheet with list of possible states and reference those lists. If you have a list that is a bit longer or needs to be updated regularly, it is generally easier to input the information in a separate sheet and then reference it from the data validation interface. Creating a Dropdown by Referencing a Range of Cells ![]() I generally use this method for “this or that” type lists where the user is only selecting from one of two options. However, it is not practical for longer lists, lists that could change regularly, or lists that need to be more dynamic in nature. It does not require any of the information to be populated in a hidden sheet that a user could potentially unlock and edit so is slightly more secure. This method is useful for short Excel dropdowns that aren’t going to change very often (or ever). The result is a dropdown that is populated with Canada, Mexico, and United States. Using this technique, we’d just type the country names in separated by commas as shown in the screen grab. ![]() Let’s assume we were creating a travel request form and wanted to have a dropdown list of countries to select from. The simplest method to make a dropdown in Excel is to simply hard-code your list into the data validation rule. We will cover off on each of these individually in this article and discuss some pros & cons I’ve discovered over the years. You can create a dropdown in Excel that is hard-coded into the data validation rule, it can reference a range of data, a table of data, or even be defined by using formulas. There are a handful of different ways to populate the list and, depending on the situation, they can all be viable options. ![]() This is achieved by using data validation to create a dropdown list in a cell, as shown here. A great way to accomplish this is creating a dropdown in Excel that the end user can select values from. Howdee! There will be occasions, when working with Microsoft Excel, when you want to control the data that can be entered in a certain cell. ![]() ![]() ![]() Finally, the … tool offers some more specialist features in its popup menu, which can be useful when that process is in trouble. That file listing can be invaluable when you’re trying to track Property Lists, dylibs, and other items which an app may have open. The tool with an i provides a useful window of information, including memory use, detailed statistics, and a list of open files and ports. Some users love exercising this power in Activity Monitor, but unless you know what you’re doing you can easily cause problems. Select one of these processes and there are several things you can do with it: the tool with an X in it can force the process to quit. So a high %CPU here isn’t a symptom of overheating, but of one of the response measures your Mac uses to try to stay cool. But kernel_task is used by your Mac’s Core Duet and environmental control system to block processor cores when they’re hot and overloaded. Of course that process is always running, and its CPU Time should be one of the longest in the list. The other is the hot Mac with an unusually high %CPU for kernel_task. As relative measurements go, %CPU seems fairly quantitative and accurate. On a Mac with 8 cores, don’t be surprised to see processes with 400% or more in their %CPU, indicating that they’re loading most or all of the cores very heavily indeed. Most of us assume that %CPU should total 100, but the units here aren’t that precise, and refer more to the total core capacity. There are just two catches which still cause trouble. Most of this information is fairly straightforward to interpret. The box at the foot of this window provides some useful global indicators of total CPU use and idle time, a basic plot of total CPU load over time, and the total number of threads and processes. If you’re only interested in user processes, then turn off the clutter of All Processes, for instance. You can also customise which processes get listed in this window, using the View menu. One snag of doing that is that the order keeps changing, of course. Click in its header once to sort the list of processes into order with the highest %CPU at the top. In most cases, the defaults are an excellent start, and the %CPU column the most significant to watch. You can customise which fields are shown by Control-clicking in the column headers, which pops up the menu of items you can include, and you can drag and drop the columns into the order that you want. The main window lists active processes and key values which normally include %CPU, CPU Time, Threads and more. Understanding what you see is the next challenge. ![]() All you have to do is open Activity Monitor and select its CPU view. Unlike the log, access provided by Activity Monitor is excellent only developers with Xcode’s performance tools have any better, and then only for their own code. This article looks at using the latter to learn more about what your Mac’s processor cores are up to, and what might be causing it problems. For observing Macs and macOS there are two major tools: the Unified Log, which unfortunately is still poorly supported by the bundled browser, and Activity Monitor. using the QueueDirectories property) for new logs and re-launches your applicaton, or presents notifications. If you want to know about anything, start by observation. You could write a launchd agent that responds to for crash events by montioring the crash report directory (e.g. I think you could use these features in a couple of ways to achieve your requirement, if launchd is responsible for running the xpc services, it can take reponsibility for restarting them on crash events, and they can be dissociated from any app crashes. On Mountain Lion, user process crash reports end up in ~/Library/DiagnosticReports/, with a crashlog and plist file pair created per crash event. It logs through the AppleSystemLogger facility and can be accessed with the syslog tools as documented in the linked TechNote. Launchd can be set to react to various system events as launch event, including monitoring files and directories, scheduled times, or listening to network connections.ĬrashReporter is the OS X system facility that catches and logs all process crashes. Launchd agents can react to various system events, and can be configured to restart processes in the event of them crashing ( specified via the KeepAlive/SuccessfulExit key in the property list) Launchd is the OS X system supervisor intended for launching and monitoring background processes, and would be typically used to run XPC services. I think you could possibly make use of the built in facilities Launchd and CrashReporter to achieve your requirements. ![]() ![]() ![]() On 24 June 2020 Bolton Wanderers made an official approach to Barrow for Evatt to become their manager, and Barrow demanded £250,000 compensation should he make the move. Its like the nest is throttling every device in my network for some reason unless i say otherwise. So, the workaround is to set the connected devices as ‘priority’ in Google Home app. It appears that internet speed throttling occurs with ‘standard’ router behavior. There is a workaround to mitigate internet speed throttling And, affected users are encouraged to keep sending feedback to Google. So as MichaelP said, we’ve been seeing some of this pop up with other users as well and I’m taking this to our internal teams and pushing it to a higher level of support. In fact, in September, a Community Specialist on the Nest support forums confirmed that the issue was escalated to higher levels, as it’s shown in the following: Reports related to the matter have been out there since at least September. It should be noted that this problem is not exactly new. I check today – same issue as before where all devices are getting great download speeds but capped at 100mbps upload. Everything looked perfect for a day – i was getting expected speeds for wired at 800mbps and wireless was around 300 – 400mbps up and down. Google advised a replacement so I did just that. Setup was a breeze and everything looked good until I noticed my upload speeds were capped at 100mbps on every device behind the nest. After all, it must be compatible with the speeds offered by the user’s internet provider. Graeber himself was fascinated by this, the range of human possibilities in the past and the present, which could unravel the seeming inevitability of our current social and political institutions, while grounding hope for living collectively with greater freedom in more egalitarian arrangements. He observes “there was something about anthropological thought in particular-its keen awareness of the very range of human possibilities-that gave it an affinity to anarchism from the very beginning” (Ibid: 13). In Fragments, Graeber explores what he names the “strange affinity” between anarchism and anthropology (Ibid: 12). This is characteristic of Graeber: the desire to render social theory-particularly anthropology-usefully interesting to radical movements, and radical movements-particularly anarchism-useful and interesting to social theory. ![]() Broadly, Fragments seeks to outline a body of radical theory that would, in Graeber’s words, “actually be of interest to those who are trying to help bring about a world in which people are free to govern their own affairs” (Ibid: 9). I will therefore limit myself to sketching some basic elements of the kind of social theory that Graeber is proposing in this spirited text. The pamphlet is impossible to summarize and discuss fully in twenty minutes, especially since in hindsight, it bears the seeds of many of the major arguments Graeber was to develop later in life. Graeber calls it a pamphlet, “a series of thoughts, sketches of potential theories, and tiny manifestos” (Graeber 2004: 1). Published in 2004 in the inspirational context of a veritably exploding anarchism around the world, David Graeber’s Fragments of an Anarchist Anthropology (referred to here on as Fragments) is a tiny and mighty, genre-defying text.
